MONUMENTAL Day 4 Reflection

Despite original thought process and plan it turns out it made sense to put two pills on one board instead of two separate boards, the benefit being there's less sheets that need to be joined and smaller number of seams. After some consideration i decided to go with the matt surface as it would hide the seam better, i also believe the glossy side being faced down meant the original copy would be easier to be popped of as the surface is less grippy compared to the double sided sheets matt side. However the first attempt was a fail and the prints got stuck; but after using some silicon spray as mold release the 8 copies were easy and time efficient to reproduce.

As suspected the prints started to deform from the heat and the infill started to show up a little on top. I surprisingly don't hate this; it adds a little bit of texture and character. There are also holes on the mdf base which were necessary to allow air to be sucked pout; creating slight dents. Again its not a big deal and hardly noticeable but just a quirk i should note for future reference.

I decided to make a slim mdf frame to place the pill plates on. After talking to my tutor she suggested having frame as opposed to a solid peice of card board would feel more airy and light weight, whilst substantial enough o connote protection. However the staple gun as i initially thought i could use turned out didn't staple deep enough and i had to nail it in the end, It worked fine, needs a little clean up as some nails stick out on the end but its mostly in one peice now.

I finished modelling the helmet frame and printing it off now before heading to sleep. It should be finished by the time i get back tomorrow and be ready to start weaving the pill packets in. I have slight concerns on its structural integrity as i placed holes in to to help with weaving. It shouldn't be a big deal as its purpose is purely cosmetic and the brief only demands a photograph but i should handle it with care.
